2017

Here we are at 2017!

I'm going to be trying to be much more active this year on all my web publishing sites! And while I will be posting primarily Zombie Shark Bear and other art work in most places, I think this blog will still be my primary place for religious reflection.

So, to start the new year off right... here's some art that I never got around to posting in 2016!

Pepper being sneaky with that mistletoe!

Even though 2016 had a lot of ups and downs, I was happy at the beginning of it because I managed to do two Christmas drawings and a New Years drawing for the first time ever....

PALS WITH THE BIG G: Ash Wednesday 2015

It's been a long while since I've posted anything on this blog and for that I apologize.

I don't know how many people actually keep up with my blog posts (though it's not really that difficult to track), but if you are a regular reader, please know that though I have not been updating my status here on a regular basis, my life has been anything but dull.

ZOMBIE SHARK BEAR and GREMLIN WORLD are both being regularly published on Tapastic and soon my Tumblr, Aswembar (Nom Nom Art Collective) has been cleared for a table at the San Diego Comic Con again, and my writing collaborator and I have been hard at work on a brand new short story we hope to have out in time for summer.

I've also been attending regular art meet ups, keeping up with Spider-Verse, Endgame, and one of my new favorite comics, Boku no Hero Academia, and watching The Flash, Agent Carter, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and Log Horizon. Guilty Gear Xrd has taken up a pretty good chunk of time, as well. I've even been able to try a slew of new restaurants and exotic new foods- needless to say, I have not been bored.

That said, the Lenten season is upon us again, and I've decided to revisit my daily blog post project that brought me a lot of enjoyment back in 2013. I feel like I have grown a lot as a person since that last project both in my faith and as a person, and so I think further reflection will take me on to bigger and brighter things.

PALS WITH THE BIG G: The need for reflection

It has been a while since I've had a chance to post regularly on my blog, something that I am very sorry to my followers for; but my artwork has actually been making progress on a regular basis over at Tapastic and I'm happy to say that we are approaching the half way point of Zombie Shark Bear Episode 1 (something that seemed so far away just a few months ago).

I intend to post ZSB here on the blog soon with some extra commentary. Also, I'll be posting that late review of Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist when the blu ray comes out, but I would definitely suggest watching it if you get the chance.

Anyway, as this is a "Pals with the Big G" post, it's going to be religion related, so if that's not really your thing this is the head's up- though I do think that mindful consideration of others' point of view is a good thing to consider (I certainly have gained from it).

ZOMBIE SHARK BEAR FINALLY BEGINS!!

Hey all!

Exciting times are on the horizon! I know it's been a slow couple of months, post wise, but that should start turning around soon as Comic Con grows closer! For today, I'm very excited to announce that my long gestating, much mentioned project, ZOMBIE SHARK BEAR, will FINALLY be starting its serialization over on TAPASTIC along with the continuing adventures of Pai and the gang in GREMLIN WORLD!! Both series will be updated on Wednesdays and Sundays at 12:00 PM PST.

Tapastic seems like a great platform for any aspiring independent comic artist to get off on the right foot, so if you've got an idea, it may be the place for you to get started! It's really easy to use, too, so don't be shy!!

More to come soon!

GREMLIN WORLD 2.0 Part 1

Well, I was going to wait a little bit longer before releasing this since there were some edits that I wanted to do, but I might as well get a general consensus on the work as it is. So, in light of that, I am going to be posting my recently drawn comic which re-introduces the world of GREMLIN WORLD in a much more story-driven fashion. I originally drew this for a manga contest this past summer, but since that doesn't seem to be going anywhere, I guess I'm free to do with it as I please.  I'll be posting this in 4 page installments, it's 20 pages, so we'll see the final pages on Friday, and I'm very interested to hear what readers of both versions think of this reboot, and even if you haven't seen the original, please feel free to check it out!

October Sketch 26- Smug Pai

Surprisingly, I've only done two drawings of Pai during this October Sketch project. This one is kind of random but came out really nice. It was fun to draw her so smug looking.

October Sketch 31- KILLER PEPPER

Picture of Pepper Xombi to go along with the picture of her sister Cafe.

October Sketch 27- Destroy This Mad Brute!

Inspired by a World War 1 military propaganda poster and similar illustrations from the film Pacific Rim (which you can see in Guillermo Del Toro's Director's Notebook section on the Blu Ray), I started with a simple picture of Rolo with no idea behind it. As I colored it, it took a life of its own and became this.

October Sketch 21- Komodo Dragon Zombie

First pass at the Komodo Dragon Zombie for ZOMBIE SHARK BEAR. Definitely a rough pass more to get some basic ideas down, I think the next go will be more a bit more animalistic. I do want to make it more gory, but since the art for ZSB is simplistic I need to figure out where I want to add the gore but keep the simple character silhouettes. Definitely needs some work to push it from 'lizard-man' to 'lizard-zombie.'

October Sketch 19: KILLER CAFE

Here's a fun piece I did of GREMLIN WORLD's Cafe Xombi, Pepper's genius sister. This illustration was a ton of fun to draw and was inspired by a recent Smile Precure fan art I randomly saw this weekend.

October Sketch 17 and 18: Revolver Ocelot and Something Else

Some random sketches I did for October Sketch, these two didn't really have too much thought behind them. I've been resisting doing fan art for a little while, but I felt like drawing Revolver Ocelot from Metal Gear one night. I really need to hunker down and brush up on my realistic anatomy. The other drawing was pretty random and was done in only a few minutes. I've been playing a lot of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle, so I think this is channeling some Araki-ness
